CARS Protection Plus Million Dollar Race turns 21
MONTGOMERY, Ala. (July 20) – Following a 20th anniversary celebration that can only be described as epic, the CARS Protection Plus Million Dollar Race will return to Montgomery Motorsports Park once again on Oct. 20-23 and the 21st anniversary event is guaranteed to be bigger, better, and richer than ever.
Saturday’s Million Dollar main event remains one of the most highly anticipated days in drag racing because one lucky racer will have a shot to win a top prize of up to $1,000,000, the largest single-day payout in drag racing. Last year, Texan Nathan Martin outlasted a record field of more than 355 entries to earn a life-changing top prize of $365,000.
Over the last decade, event promoters Randy & Jennifer Folk have continually refined the format of the CARS Million Dollar Race with the goal of providing maximum value and maximum fun for all competitors and this year will be no different.
In 2016, the payout for the three companion events on Thursday, Friday, and Sunday will once again pay an additional $5,000 each day, $25,000 to the winner. Now known as the Mickey Thompson Triple 25’s, the entry fee remains just $675 for all three events. Last year, more than 600 entries participated in the Triple 25’s, which represent one of the best dollar value’s in the sport.
“We’ve had tremendous growth with the Million Dollar main event, but I’m also thrilled with the growth of the Mickey Thompson Triple 25s,” said Folk. “This year, I wanted to do something special to say thank you to the racers who have continually supported us and that’s why we opted to keep the extra $5,000 into each day’s payout. Last year the added the extra 5K in honor of the 20th anniversary and will continue the tradition in 16’.”
“I also don’t’ want to forget about the spectators, crew members, and families that come to this event so this year we’re not going to be charging an admission fee for anyone,” Folk continued. “All spectators and crew members will be welcomed for free. That’s another way for us to say thank you to those who have supported us for the last 20 years. I’m sure everyone will be happy to get rid of wristbands, too!”
The 21st CARS Protection Plus Million Dollar Race officially kicks off on Wednesday, October 19th. The gates will open for parking on Tuesday, October 18 at 2 p.m. and will remain open all night to accommodate late arrivals.
On-track action will kick off on Wednesday with a free test and tune for all weekend entrants from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. followed by a gamblers race. Wednesday’s Gamblers race is a special 32-car Shootout with the winner taking home $5,000. The $50 entry fee will allow each entrant one qualifying run and the 32 best packages will return to race for that $5,000 winner-take-all prize.
While most racers come to Montgomery for a chance to win life-changing money, it’s the experience of the CARS Million Dollar Race that keeps them coming back year-after-year. Most anyone who’s been there will admit that there is nothing like the pressure of a big money final round, and the winner’s circle celebration, post-race fireworks show, and Lucas Oil Racer Appreciation party, free steak dinner, live DJ, and photo booth, are all part of the experience. A complimentary beverage and snack cart will be stocked all weekend and available for racers.
Another tradition that will continue in 2016 is the live on-line streaming courtesy of Motor Mania TV. The online feed allows fans from across the globe to share in the special experience that is the CARS Million Dollar Race.
Other special promotions include the Million Dollar golf cart give-away customized by Overkill Motorsports, and a host of special awards including Best Appearing Car, Long Distance, Youngest Driver, Perfect Package, Bounty Hunter, and Weekend Warrior. There will also be best losing packages awarded in every race. An event the size of the CARS Million Dollar Race does not happen without the support of many corporations including CARS Protection Plus, Mickey Thompson, Lucas Oil Products, and a host of others.
The Million Dollar Race VIP club will also return in 2016 and sign-ups will begin Friday, August 19. Anyone can sign up by visiting www.themilliononline.com. Numerous prizes are given away to club members and one person goes home with the grand prize, a dragster chassis.
